3. Bangkok
Unless we venture to Phuket, this is likely to be the most touristy place we visit and you’re really spoilt here with everything being in English at all the touristy spots. English is widely spoken and it feels a very easy and soft introduction to SE Asia. It’s also very nice. Though the city is built entirely around the car with huge roads bludgeoning their way across town, the drivers themselves are quite polite and given the fact that half the time the roads are just a huge car park they seem very patient. No one hoots. Never. Not even when some idiot pulls out at a traffic...

We picked up our hire car in Ipswich having asked for an MG HS as we could just squeeze Tilly in the back and found they’d taken no chances and upgraded us to a Grandaddy Volvo, very nice it was too, it even had a Werther’s Original holder, or maybe that was a coin pocket …so we cruised down to Gatwick at 35mph, and headed to check in for our flight. No more than 48 hours before your flight you have to notify Norse if your bike box is bigger than 250cm total dimensions. We’d taken the back wheel off for this trip and had managed to slim Tilly down to 265...

When I really annoyed my mum, she used to say, “Sometimes you can get right up my back and knock me hat off” but to have pissed off to the two super powers in the world takes some doing. When we first started touring, all lazy like in our first Motorhome Frankie, we wanted to go to the States for 6 months so applied for a US 10 year visa. They refused us as they said we wanted to live there…. Linda had to kick me repeatedly under the table to stop me Going off on one, (JOOO) but this year we thought hey ho, let’s cycle in China. Not the up and down mountainous china...

The final installment of our India trip !!… The flooding in Dubai had disrupted numerous flights, people were waiting for days for flights, many sleeping on the floor at the airport, but our flight showed as on time until, naturally enough, we were nearly at the airport. Then of course it changed to cancelled. We were in an odd situation. Emirates was refusing to fly anyone with connecting flights through Dubai, but as ours was a 4 day stopover that apparently didn’t count and we were classed as terminating in Dubai so could fly to there. So we joined the queue at Mumbai...

After our lovely night in 5 star luxury we had another two ferries that may or may not run but also had the offer of croissants and muffins for brekky, something you never see here. We’d usually be on the road before sunrise, but with this on offer delayed our departure for a fill up. We hadn’t booked any further accommodation due to the uncertainty of the ferries, but the first ran on time and it was a lovely peaceful cycle along the beach and river to get to it. We crossed the peninsula and the 2nd ferry at the top of it has naturally been withdrawn when they...

It’s not always fun being in the news – The journo who interviewed us recently kindly referred to us as an Elderly Couple. Bloomin cheek! Though his article did highlight just how hard it is cycling here by saying that just walking 10 paces here at this time of year and you’re soaked, so this elderly couple are quite mad, or something like that. But he has a point. You start sweating the moment you’re outside and after a few kms we are soaked. ..I’ve taken to wearing my swimming shorts as my other shorts just look like I’ve pee’d myself, but...
