Getting excited about the quarter finals….

Written off by the press, avoided Spain it seems like a great opportunity to make the semis. It’s raining here today so do we venture to town on our bike to find somewhere to watch it?

Home at Last…

…well, not really home, but Taffy feels like home to us! After getting the Harwich to the Hook ferry and filling up with diesel we headed to the nearest Campsite to be told we were way to big for them and had to find another! Nice start we thought but the next campsite we headed to challenged us with well if you can get that thing in here you can stay, so after a bit of a 25 point maneuver we found ourselves all alone on the campsite, presumably because no one else could manage the double slalom bend you had to negotiate to enter! We are now however at Gorinchem, a lovely old island fortress...

Jubilantly Royalist

It’s such fun being a royalist, you get to stand in the rain for 3 hours to catch a fleeting glimpse of an oap in a funny hat desperately trying to catch pneumonia on the prow of an open boat sailing headlong into the first monsoon in history to come direct from the North Pole! And of course the irony is we had a fantastic time, whilst all the republicans either left the country or spent 4 days whining about the waste of money whilst secretly recording the concert on their sky boxes! But that’s the thing about being a royalist – it’s great fun. If we’re not getting a party or some amazing...

And we’re off!

And we’re off!

! Well, almost! Our first few days have been a bit hectic and certainly we hope they’re not setting a trend for this trip. We broke down less than 2 miles from home right in the middle of Tesco’s forecourt blocking 2 lanes! Fortunately after about 10 minutes Taffy reluctantly managed to start and we skipped the refuel and headed straight to Imperial Commercial, the local MAN dealer, for repairs and a service. This was supposed to be an afternoons work but Taffy needed a lot more than a service and ended up having one tyre repaired and 2 re grooved, a new shock absorber, exhaust and some...

Nearly home now…

All that remains of the Peenumunde (in Germany) rocket testing site is the power station, guard house and the staffs housing (which is now normal housing). The Power station has been converted into a very interesting museum charting the birth of rockets through their use in WW2 to modern day. Outside the museum there are replica models of both the V1 doodlebug and the V2 which looks like it has emerged fresh from a Flash Gordon comic book. There is also one of the trams that used to bring workers to the site that survived the war, the Soviet pillage of equipment after the war and its...

Gdansk

What a beautiful city! And as usual, we turn up in the middle of the annual street fair which added to the atmosphere but rather hid the magnificant buildings. We stayed at a campsite just up the coast arriving mid afternoon and decided to cycle in to the city. Perhaps not the best idea as it was Lindas first cycle since her back problems and it was also 16km away. It was however a lovely ride all on dedicated cycle paths through leafy suburbs and showed us how prosperous this part of Poland is – best get your plumber in now as I can’t see them staying in Britain much longer! The...
