We’re nearly there…

We’re nearly there…

We awoke in Zurich, having taken the night sleeper from Amsterdam, to be greeted by the fresh mountain air that is Switzerland. No, hang on, that’s not quite right. We got off the train to be greeted by a station that was so smokey it actually had a mist hanging over it. It stank of cigarettes and we almost felt we’d gone back go the 1970’s on some time train, but no, this is Switzerland which advertises it’s clean mountain air but greets you with smell like a stale ashtray. A few days earlier we’d cycled from Orford to Harwich, got the night ferry and then...

Our next adventure is about to begin…

So, what is it? Well, we’ve decided to head to the land of cuckoo clocks,Toblerone and mountains – Switzerland and with the snow falling heavily and our destination, Andermatt perched at the top of the Gotthard pass at 2000m currently basking at a balmy -14C what else is there to do but… get our brand new tent out and camp. I know, crazy! When we planned this trip the weather at Andermatt was a cool but comfortable 12C and we thought hey ho, an extra blanket and we’ll be fine. But with the weather changing we’ve booked hotels instead. So, are we finally set to...

Vegetarianism and Triathlons…

‎Back in Europe we are doing much more cycling than Morocco, we finished the Ecovia Lateral going both ways from Spain to the most South Westerly point in Europe, a barely signposted 251 km (x2) cycle route which is occasionally fantastic  (the salt pans, beautiful cliffs and beaches, gorgeous little villages) and sometimes really scary (walking down a railway line, cycling through a knee high river and cycling on, as we were told by the locals, ‘Europe’s most dangerous road’ ( we wore our helmets for once, though the way some of the Portuguese drive I think all that would...

Gassed and Robbed…

Gassed and Robbed…

‎It’s our own fault really. We met a UKIP Daily Mail reader in Gibraltar who’d given up motorhoming because of the gas attacks in Spain his friends had suffered, (even though they’d never seen any sign of the attackers, nor gas, which had been fed into their van via the locks apparently) and we ignored his warnings. Well it came home to roost the other night when we’d been out for a meal after a 75km cycle and a few glasses of Sangria, some pre dinner cocktails and complementary ports after dinner that we too got gassed and robbed! Very cunning they were too, after...

Welcome home!

Welcome home!

Having had a pleasant crossing back to Spain we headed back to Gibraltar for a Morrisons Cheddar stock up and to let Linda see just how much booze she could smuggle across the Spanish border using Tilly. (Not our granddaughter Tilly obviously, though at those prices I wouldn’t put it past her). 6 litres of Gin on board and another half in the blood stream we headed on for our next challenge – cycling the Ecovia Lateral cycle route that runs from the Spanish border to the most South Westerly point in European Cape St Vincent. On route we made a pit stop and cycled into town for a...

Oh, now I see why women do all the work…

Oh, now I see why women do all the work…

‎We’ve been sitting on the Atlantic beach today, between the plastic bags, tin cans and broken glass on what would otherwise be a fantastic beach. Sadly the Moroccans throw their rubbish anywhere, well, actually they don’t so much as throw it as just drop it after unwapping  ice creams, sweets etc. Just where they are standing.   Villages do seem to have more ordered rubbish organisation – they throw their rubbish in the river, often upstream of the village and then do their washing downstream. If you’ve ever wondered why the oceans have so much plastic in them my bet...
