Things come in Threes

Linda always reckons that things happen in threes, I’ve never been a great believer the old wives tales myself but I’m hoping she’s right this time. After the batteries packed up we then found the alternator had stopped charging them too and after this the diesel cooker control broke! That’s our three we hope and we actually sorted all these things out in one day! We had arranged to collect the batteries in Gouda and managed to find an MAN dealer nearby who kindly set one of his mechanics onto Taffy immediately despite being really busy and sort the alternator problem (it was a fuse!) Next...

That was the week that was…

Well, we’re home (again) only this time we are really back in the uk, though not actually at home home as we’ve rented the house out and can’t go home… So we’re at Jon’s parents in Sudbourne. But why you ask, surely that’s in the opposite direction to Russia and Linda’s map reading is not that bad? Well yes, but on Tuesday we became grandparents for the first time, checked the weather for the next week and thought we’d rather pop home for a few days and see Ben, Toni and Matilda – our new Granddaughter – than sit in the rain and wind in Germany. That’s when the trouble began…. Taffy, in a...

Written off by the press, avoided Spain it seems like a great opportunity to make the semis. It’s raining here today so do we venture to town on our bike to find somewhere to watch it?

21 again again…

After the previous days energetic cycle ride through some gorgeous countryside and over numerous little and large ferries we decided to let the train take the strain and visit Dordrecht for Linda’s birthday boarding from Gorinchem at the unearthly hour of 11.30 – that was our attempts at an early start! In our defence we drank too much and stayed up late the previous night to watch England play Ukraine in the town square on a giant screen which they had to turn on especially for us! The square was surrounded by restaurants in typical continental fashion, all of which had a smattering of...

Home at Last…

…well, not really home, but Taffy feels like home to us! After getting the Harwich to the Hook ferry and filling up with diesel we headed to the nearest Campsite to be told we were way to big for them and had to find another! Nice start we thought but the next campsite we headed to challenged us with well if you can get that thing in here you can stay, so after a bit of a 25 point maneuver we found ourselves all alone on the campsite, presumably because no one else could manage the double slalom bend you had to negotiate to enter! We are now however at Gorinchem, a lovely old island fortress...

Jubilantly Royalist

Jubilantly Royalist

It’s such fun being a royalist, you get to stand in the rain for 3 hours to catch a fleeting glimpse of an oap in a funny hat desperately trying to catch pneumonia on the prow of an open boat sailing headlong into the first monsoon in history to come direct from the North Pole! And of course the irony is we had a fantastic time, whilst all the republicans either left the country or spent 4 days whining about the waste of money whilst secretly recording the concert on their sky boxes! But that’s the thing about being a royalist – it’s great fun. If we’re not getting a party or some amazing...
