We’re not cycling up there…
Having said goodbye to Ozzie the drug dog who has now swapped the wacky Barky habit for Champagne tasting in France, we moved on to Barcelona, the crime capital of Europe, if not the world and for that matter probably the solar system too. We took no chances and stayed at Stalag 14, a guarded car park with walls so high a pole voter on stilts wouldn’t have a hope of scaling them. On the plus side it was right on the cycle routes and close enough to the centre of the city for us to roll home “Sangria’d up” late at night. Barcelona is now one of the best cities to...
Read MoreA Twittering Drug dog…
We were planning on only spending a couple of days in Palamos, but having met a dog with a drug habit and twitter account we found ourselves staying longer. Ozwena – a rather independently minded beagle – had got friendly with the local dealer and one night decided when his owners were having a swift pint, would leg it to see if he could get his paws on something a little more interesting than PAL to eat. He was gone for the night and was returned the next day by the local dealer – who apparently looked high as a kite – having had a marvelous time gorging himself on...
Read MoreFarewell all!
Apparently this may be our last blog entry ever as we’ve now arrived in Spain. We’ve been warned that we’ll be gassed, mugged, robbed, flagged down by fake police, hijacked, kidnapped, impaled with iron bars and thrown to the Spanish inquisition by other motor homers and from what people tell us we’re taking our lives in our hands just crossing the border. Anyone would think we’re going to Syria. People paint a very bleak picture of safety in Spain. Even the FCO join in with warning about crime here. Anyway, we’ve said sod it we’re going anyway and...
Read MoreIt’s windy – and it’s not cos we’re Veggie!
When we left the South of France in September it was windy and suffering from horrendous floods and now we’ve arrived back it’s even windier and all evidence of the floods has gone. It’s been so windy that on one night we felt sea sick as Taffy rolled around in the 100kph gusts and on another we stayed in doors as it was seriously unpleasant outside. Some of our fellow campers have moved off the key where we are parked and headed for shelter in the middle of the night as it’s been so bad. I’ve always wanted to see what a hurricane was like – well I...
Read MoreVersailles
When we set off for Versailles we trusted our mapping software and followed it as it guided us on the cycle routes from Paris out to Versailles. What we learnt from this is that we need to get the contour line add on for it as it took us straight over the top of the hill between Paris and Versailles. And not just over it, it wanted us to zig zag up and down it a few times before finally allowing us the pleasure of rolling into Versailles, a little bit puffed. When I say hill it was the type of hill that we’d have had to take a run up for in our old Morris Minor. 15% is not a fun thing...
Read MoreJon in Louis Vuitton? Whatever next…
Well here’s something you never thought you’d see, Jon in Louis Vuitton! No I’ve not got all extravagant and splashed out for a £3 Primark shirt sold for £300 because it’s got some logo on it, we’ve in fact gone to the Louis Vietton Modern Art Gallery. This is a fabulous building, all glass wood and steel with strange angles and some really weird ‘art’ in it. You know, the art that really sets me off on a proper Reed rant. The auditorium had colour swatches from the deluxe paint range hung on the wall with some caption of how it represents the...
